Portsmouth College: Flat to Pitched

Portsmouth College like many college campus’s built around the 1960’s consist of mainly flat roof buildings both single storey and multi storey and in the past decade they have had a running maintenance programme to repair the roofs over the holiday periods. This proved costly, inconvenient and meant long term budgeting became impossible.

In 1999 Mr Terry Ashdown, Estates Manager for the college looked at using AshJack flat to pitch roof system as part of a long term programme to resolve the problems of the leaking flat roofs some of which were now affecting the running of the college.

During the summer holidays Gable (UK) Limited were contracted to design, survey and install the AshJack flat to pitch roof system to the 3 storey main teaching block complete with colour coated aluminium sheets and new insulation laid over the existing flat roofs to bring the thermal insulation values up to date. The work was completed within the 6 week period and proved to be a real success not only from having a new weather tight roof but changing the visual impact of the college.

Each year since then Gable (UK) Limited have completed various areas of the college resulting in a ‘New Look’ campus and giving the college the ability to plan and budget for the future.
